Last week, Belgian producer, multi-instrumentalist and dj noevdv announced and released the final piece of his debut EP mulholland drive: moody, ethereal single ‘nobody like you’. Masterfully encapsulating the dream-like quality and freedom of a late night drive, the single and accompanying music video are a brilliant continuation of noevdv’s atmospheric musical universe and insight into his upcoming project. 

A true artist of the internet generation, 23-year-old noevdv’s musical journey began when he started uploading beats on YouTube and was shot into the spotlight when they were sampled by rapper Cl4pers in a viral track that has been streamed over 100 million times. Soon after, he released his breakthrough single ‘want u’ which samples a YouTube cover by Clara LaSan and gained incredible traction on Instagram – now with over 200 million streams.   

Having started with and garnered acclaim through his work in production, noevdv has developed a distinctly production-first approach to songwriting which his upcoming project embraces. Focusing on sonic texture, melody and dynamics, noevdv strives to build a deeply emotive auditory landscape which takes its cues from instrumentals rather than relying heavily on lyrics. 

Recently released single ‘nobody like you’ encapsulates this evocative approach. Featuring lush, reverb-rich synths offset by a crisp beat, the track perfectly conveys the warmth of realising how deeply you’ve fallen for someone – and its moody music video is the perfect cinematic companion. 

This single comes alongside the announcement of noevdv’s debut EP, which is set for release this June and opens with dream-like, ambient track ‘without me’. Viral track ‘want u’ comes next with sparkling, relaxed single ‘wonder about you’ set to be included in the middle of the project. With four unreleased songs still to be revealed, there is much to anticipate regarding the development of noevdv’s catalogue. 

This upcoming project is framed as a dual reflection of noevdv’s Belgian roots and his experience living in Los Angeles, which its filmic title mulholland drive pays homage to. The tension between the comfort of home and the frenetic, creative energy of Los Angeles underpin the project, creating an atmospheric musical experience which explores the gap that often appears between ambitions and reality in a big city. 

Having already amassed over 3.1 million monthly listeners and ‘want u’ approaching RIAA Gold Certification, noevdv’s upcoming EP marks his transition from up-and-coming producer to global artist. With the focus track ‘nobody like you’ providing an exciting preview into his debut project, there is much to look forward to musically this June.
