Jade speaks to MGC about being a female CEO, her wardrobe must-haves and how she built her unique brand!

It’s great to have you here, Jade. Everyone at MGC is loving your latest collections.Tell us a little bit about the unique and creative Jade McFadden brand! What inspired you to launch it?

I, along with my business partner, wanted to create a unique fashion & lifestyle brand for women, men, and kids, that had unique designs and products ranging from clothing & shoes to bags, jewellery & accessories, home & living products, and vegan beauty & grooming products! It’s literally like a “one-stop shop”! [laughter] I knew that the industry was missing something. I knew that I wanted to create my own lane for this brand. I think that’s what makes it unique!

It’s very impressive that you’re so versatile with your designs. As a female CEO, you’re helping break boundaries in the fashion industry! Give us a glimpse into the woman behind the brand.

I remember as a kid, sketching designs and saying to myself and others that I wanted to be a fashion designer when I grew up! I even remember drawing up business proposals when I was younger [laughter].

I was a freelance designer, sewing by hand, and I debuted my first freelance collection in 2014. I was also a fashion stylist at a modelling agency and also featured in a commercial.

Wow, you’ve been immersed in many different parts of the fashion industry. What are three words that describe your brand? And what makes you unique?

Our overall brand motto and aesthetic is “Vintage-Inspiration, Mod-Liberation.”

So, I’d have to say: Classic, Modern, and Creative.

That’s very relevant in today’s love of both modern and vintage style. How do you market your brand so successfully?

By doing a lot of research, truly understanding our brand’s diverse demographic, and promoting.

Have you faced any challenges in your journey?

Yes, honestly. Even though our brand is global, the fact that I’m a woman of colour from a small town in East Texas – I’ve had to work hard to gain respect.

We really admire you as both a business woman (CEO) and a creative. As a fashion expert, what do you think every woman should have in her wardrobe? Are there any staple pieces you recommend from Jade McFadden?

For women: A good blazer, pencil skirt, a good pair of black heels and flats, a handbag and chic statement jewellery pieces.

For men: A good blazer, button-up shirt, trousers, tie, watch, a good pair of solid colour business casual shoes and sneakers.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

My mother and father, who are deceased, but instilled so much in me! I am forever grateful!

You design womenswear, kids-wear, jewellery, accessories and home design. How did you decide to expand?

Being that our brand is so diverse, it just felt natural to expand when the time was right.

You’ve come so far in such a short amount of time. Any exciting plans for the future?

I can’t share too much right now, since things are still in the works. We are constantly expanding and adding new products to www.JadeMcFadden.com , which is by Jade McFadden & Co (my business partner & I). But we will also expand in a completely different field as well in the near future. Keep in mind, when expanding, we go through a series of sample testing, design, ingredients etc. There is a lot of work, time, energy, and money put into it. We want to build a successful empire and do so in a strategic way.

That’s very exciting! We can’t wait to see what you have in store for us. Do you have any tips for future female brand owners and designers?

Yes! I actually made this list (tips) a couple years ago and kept it in my phone:

1. Pray.

2. Believe in yourself.

3. Grind hard.

4. Trust the process.

5. Try to remain optimistic.

6. Research.

7. Promote.

8. Network.

9. Give back.

10. Never give up.
