Summer heat

Clammy skin

Sticky dress

On voluptuous thighs

Walk through the town’s secret entrails

(She liked to think of them as magical realms)

To shorten the unexpected yet precedented journey

Not of her ground-beaten, scarlet feet

But that of the curious nature of the human mind

Distracted by physicality

Yet noticing the small things

A towering tree comes into vision

And blurs out again

Just as its sturdy roots-

In athropomorphic fashion-

Seem to unfurl and creep along

Not seeming quite tangible to the eyes

Of the dehydrated girl

For she follows the certainity of the path with some doubtness in her mind.

June 2016.
