In anticipation of the Friday 25^th August release of Victoria Monét’s first studio album Jaguar II we look at some of her older and more recent work.  

Victoria Monét first came to my attention in 2016 when watching choreography by renowned choreographer Sean Bankhead at Dance 411 Studios, Atlanta. The smooth melodies of Monét’s song ‘High Luv’ played as Bankhead and his dance students put on a performance of his fluid choreography.

As a fan of both Monét and Bankhead, their reconciliation on visuals for singles Party Girls featuring Buju Banton, and On My Mama, has added fuel to the anticipation of what more is to come from the drop of Monét’s first studio release album Jaguar II. Whether you’re new to the sounds of Monét, perhaps even a fan of her work without realising it, or an old fan anticipating the drop of Jaguar II, we have provided an insight into why all eyes and ears should be on the songstress.

Melodic and mellow; yet, boisterous in her musical presence, Monét has created a catalogue of music inclusive of hits written for the likes of Ariana Grande, T.I., Brandy, and Chloe x Halle. \

Her writing credits are just a small increment of the talent that is Miss Monét. A black jaguar is the perfect metaphor as proclaimed by the talented singer, songwriter which encompasses her excellence in showmanship. She’s maintained a strong presence in the background of music for many years and has now made her presence boldly known with a fierce release of her Jaguar EP in 2020, recent single On My Mama and the imminent Jaguar II album.

An ode to old R&B and Hip Hop, the projects, and singles that she has released so far have provided a paradox of nostalgia and futuristic sounds. On My Mama includes reference to the visual artistry of Ciara, Mya, and Janet. Although she is an artist in her lane she does not shy away from comparisons and gives due respect, and accolades to the women before her who have provided us with iconic music visuals, fashionable looks, and R&B sounds.  

Her live performances are just as promising with smooth and high intense choreography all whilst demonstrating sustained strong vocal ability. The Jaguar EP gave a plethora of creative live performances over the lockdown period with songs such as Touch Me, Moment, and Jaguar being performed at her live sessions and Jimmy Kimmel.
